The Police Want to Smell You and It Could be Scary
It's Halloween next week. And with all the parties that happen that night, the police will be out in full force. And if you do the slightest thing wrong while driving and a police officer happens to see you, you have a good chance of being pulled over. You see, the Police officer wants to smell you and your car. Or, he wants to look into your eyes to see if they are bloodshot or listen for a slight slur when you talk.
Generally, after they ask for your license, registration, and proof of insurance, they'll ask, "Have you had anything to drink this evening?" If you say yes even to just one beer, the Officer has the right to ask you to step out of the car and perform Field Sobriety Tests. And if you stumble on one of the FSTs, he will ask you to take a breath test.
Bottom line, when it's late and especially on the weekend or holidays, the police will look for any excuse to pull you over just to check that you haven't been drinking or if you recently smoked a joint. It's never a good idea to drink and drive or smoke weed in the car, but if you are driving at night and don't want to get pulled over, obey the speed limit, use your blinkers, and make sure all your lights are working and you don't have a cracked windshield or something.
Even better. call UBER, Lyft, or even your mother-in-law because the cost of getting a drunk driving ticket on Halloween will haunt you the rest of your life.
